BMW Motorcycle Rentals in Colombia:
The Gold Standard Fleet
At Elephant Moto, we don’t believe in “just renting bikes.” We believe in providing the precision tools required for an unforgettable story. Since 2014, our operation has been built on the values of good luck, unforgettable memories, and teamwork. As one of the regions few Official BMW Motorrad Partner, we cater to the experienced rider who values mechanical perfection and the peace of mind that comes with factory-backed support.
Our rental fleet is curated, not mass-market. Every machine is maintained to a standard that often exceeds showroom condition, overseen by a team led by Mauricio “Micho” Escobar—a certified BMW instructor and veteran GS Trophy Marshal. When you rent from us, you aren’t just getting a key; you’re leveraging a decade of Colombian expertise.
Many riders come to us looking for a solo, self-guided adventure through the Colombian Andes. We respect that independent spirit. However, the terrain in Colombia is as challenging as it is beautiful. With 314 distinct ecosystems and rapid elevation changes from sea level to 14,000 feet, a “solo” trip can quickly turn into a logistical puzzle.
Why settle for just a bike when you can have a logistical backbone? While you browse our fleet, we invite you to consider a Custom-Tailored Private Tour. Most of our rental inquiries evolve into custom expeditions because riders realize the value of our “secret sauce”: boutique haciendas, 24/7 chase vehicles for luggage and hydration, and the best mountain switchbacks that aren’t on any standard GPS. We are Adventure Architects, and we can build a private route around your rental that ensures you see the best of Colombia without the stress of logistics.
A common mistake for international riders is trying to time their trip based on traditional northern seasons. Because we sit just four degrees north of the equator, Colombia is a 365-day riding destination.
In the Andes, the calendar is secondary to verticality. While the “dry season” from December to March is our busiest, the “green season” (April to October) offers the most vibrant landscapes and perfectly settled dust on our legendary dual-purpose tracks. We don’t have four seasons; we have “four seasons in a day”. No matter when you arrive, the Elephant Moto family is ready to get you on the road
Our Colombian fleet focuses on high-displacement BMW adventure platforms, selected specifically for their ability to handle the extreme demands of Andean touring.
- BMW R 1300 GS: The undisputed king of adventure. With 145 horsepower and an agile chassis, it is the ultimate tool for high-speed mountain corridors and long-distance comfort.
- BMW F 900 GS: The mid-weight specialist. Optimized for a balanced power-to-weight ratio, this bike is the go-to for riders seeking agility on technical dual-purpose tracks.
- BMW F 800 GS: Accessible performance. The perfect entry point for riders seeking manageable seat height without sacrificing the GS pedigree.
To maintain the safety of our family and the quality of our fleet, we enforce strict rental standards.
- Licensing: Under 2025 Colombian traffic laws, international riders must present a valid motorcycle license for high-displacement machines (minimum 1 year of issuance). Note: an International Driving Permit (IDP) is not mandatory, unless your license is written in alphabet different to latin alphabet.
- Experience & Age: Riders must be at least 20 years old and demonstrate experience with high-displacement motorcycles.
- Security Deposit: We require a credit card pre-authorization for the accident deductible cap, which is $3,500 USD in Colombia.
We provide a “turn-key” rental experience that justifies our premium market position. Every rental includes:
- Unlimited Kilometers: The Andes are meant to be explored without limits.
- Storage Solutions: A BMW top case or similar luggage is included.
- Accident Insurance: Basic coverage is provided with a capped deductible.
- Expert Advice: Pre-ride briefings on routes, weather, and the unique “egalitarian free-for-all” of Colombian traffic.
Riding in the Andes requires a technical understanding of the environment. At high elevations like Nevado del Ruiz (14,000 feet), engine performance can drop due to reduced oxygen density. We recommend all renters adjust their braking distances and throttle inputs accordingly.
For the extreme temperature swings—from 98°F in the valleys to 44°F on the passes—we strongly recommend technical, layered gear. We do not rent riding gear, you must bring your own. We recommend well ventilated suuits, alons with layers to adapt to the fast changes in temperature.
